METCON provides an abundance of meteorological and climatological products, several of which are listed below. If other products or parameters not listed below are needed contact us and we can work to fit the needs of your company or project. 

Data Overview

Our data can be delivered as tailored PDF reports, PowerPoint presentations, shapefiles, KML/KMZ files, GeoTIFFs, ASCII, Excel Spreadsheets, CSVs, etc. 
The majority of our products are also available historically for a customizable time frame for as far back as the data allow. Our data can be provided in metric or standard where applicable. METCON can also calculate tailored statistical analyses of any of the data products we produce. 
 

Temperature Data

Our temperature data can be analyzed according to forecast or climate for any region across the globe. If additional statistical analyses are desired METCON can provide it. 
Historical, Current, and 7-Day Forecast Temperature

Maximum and minimum daily temperatures across the globe. These data are available historically, for current day, or for a day-by-day seven day forecast. 

Historical, Current, and 7-Day Forecast Temperature Departure 

Temperature departures from normal are available historically, for current day, or for a forecast out to seven days.  These temperature departures compare temperatures to normal to see how much warmer or cooler the temperatures were/are forecasted to be

Historical, Daily, and Cumulative Heating Degree Days

Accumulating heating degree days (HDDs) across any area of the globe calculated with a customizable base temperature.  

Heating Degree Day (HDD): One HDD indicates the temperature outside of a building, were below a specific threshold (65 degrees F). This means heat needed to be provided to the buildings in order to meet a certain comfort level.

Historical, Daily, and Cumulative Growing Degree Days

Accumulating growing degree days (GDDs) across any area of the globe calculated with a customizable base temperature.  

Growing Degree Day (GDD): A measure of heat accumulation for use in predicting plant and animal development rates. Our GDD maps and charts are created typically using a base temperature of 50 degrees F.

Historical, Daily, and Cumulative Cooling Degree Days

Accumulating cooling degree days (CDDs) across any area of the globe calculated with a customizable base temperature.  

Cooling Degree Day (CDD): One CDD indicates the temperature outside of a building, were above a specific threshold (65 degrees F). This means air conditioning/cooling needed to be provided to the buildings in order to meet a certain comfort level.

Number of Days and Maximum Consecutive Days > 90F​ (or < 32F)

A spatial representation of how many of the past 30 days were above or below a threshold temperature (above 90F or below 32F).  This statistic is also available for the maximum consecutive days above or below a threshold. 

Freeze Analysis

A freeze analysis focuses on daily temperatures that come close to or drop below freezing (32F).

Perfect Day Events
 

Days where temperatures were 'comfortable' and no precipitation was reported.

First Temperature Days and Record Temperatures
 

First temperature days indicate the first day of each season where the temperature reaches above 90F or below 32F depending on the season. Record high and low temperatures are also provided daily.

 

Precipitation Data

Our precipitation data can be analyzed according to forecast or climate for any region across the globe. If additional statistical analyses are desired METCON can provide it. 
Total Precipitation Summary Analysis

Total forecasted rainfall for the next 7 days (standard or metric) across any area across the globe as specified by the customer. These can be provided on a daily basis as desired.  These maps are created using the NOAA Global Forecast System data.

Percent Precipitation Summary Analysis

The percent precipitation summary analysis illustrates the percentage of average rainfall that occurred during the specified season. 

Delta Precipitation Summary Analysis

Surplus/Deficit precipitation analysis compares historical, current, or forecasted precipitation to normal.

Number of Days and Max Consecutive Days of Measurable Precipitation

Number of days and the max consecutive number of days measureable precipitation occurred within the past 30 days. Measurable precipitation is defined as any precipitation amount greater than 1 mm. 

Number of Days Since Rain

The number of days since an areas has seen measurable precipitation within the past 30 days. Measurable precipitation is defined as any precipitation amount greater than 1 mm. 

Daily Precipitation Forecast
 

Total forecasted precipitation (standard or metric) is available sub-daily or daily time scale across any area across the globe.  These maps are created using the NOAA Global Forecast System data.

7-Day, and 14-Day Total Precipitation Forecast
 

Total forecasted rainfall for the next 7 and 14 days days (standard or metric) across any area across the globe as specified by the customer.  These maps are created using the NOAA Global Forecast System data.

7-Day and 14-day Precipitation Forecast Anomaly
 

Total forecasted rainfall for the next 7 and 14 days days as compared to typical to indicate a dry or wet bias across any area across the globe as specified by the customer.  These maps are created using the NOAA Global Forecast System data.

Probability of Precipitation 7-Day Forecast
 

These maps illustrate the percent probability of precipitation occurring daily out to 7 days.  The precipitation probability amount can be tailored to show any amount. The image to the right shows the percent probability of receiving > 0.50 inches of precipitation.

Historical NEXRAD Radar Video 
 

Historical NEXRAD video can be provided by request. Typically the radar videos are created using base reflectivity, but any other parameters available with NEXRAD (base velocity, 1-hour precipitation accumulation, digital precipitation rate, etc.) can also be created.

Heavy Rain
 

Daily updated heavy rain events indicate stations where greater than 63 percent  of monthly typical rainfall has occurred. 

 

Wind Data

Our precipitation data can be analyzed according to forecast or climate for any region across the globe. If additional statistical analyses are desired METCON can provide it. 
5-Day Forecast Max Winds and Wind Duration
 

The day-by-day max wind forecast indicates the maximum wind gust forecasted over the next five days. Forecast wind duration in hours is also provided for each hurricane category (35 kts, 64 kts, 83 kts, 96 kts, 114 kts, and above 135 kts).

Previous Wind Gusts 
 

METCON can provide previous maximum sustained wind speed and maximum wind gusts for any time period across the globe. The wind analysis is validated whenever possible with weather station data.

 

Cloud Data

Our cloud cover data can be analyzed according to forecast or climate for any region across the globe. If additional statistical analyses are desired METCON can provide it. 
Percent Cloud Cover
 

Monthly and daily climatological cloud cover data are available as far back as 1984.  Cloud cover as a percent is also available on a daily/sub daily historical basis and as a forecast.

 

Analytical Charts

METCON provides a multitude of analytical chart products to give a temporal perspective of the data. Below are several of the chart products offered by METCON. 
Three Week Charts
 

Three week charts include the previous two weeks of temperature and precipitation observations as well as the forecasted weather for the next seven days as compared to the climatological normal. Other statistics  indicated on the chart include the past two weeks precipitation total, the total forecasted precipitation, temperature departure the last two weeks, forecasted temperature departure from normal, the high/low temperature for the past two weeks and for the forecasted week.

Temperature Threshold Charts
 

Temperature threshold charts can be created for any region/country/admin area for any time period. These charts illustrate the percent area of a region that reached above (below) a specific high (low) temperature threshold. These charts also compare the same data from the previous year to give perspective of temperature trends. The threshold temperatures can be any number as specified by the customer. 

NDVI Charts
 

METCON has the ability to produce weekly NDVI charts for any region or specific location across the globe using MODIS data. The start and stop date of the chart can be changed to fit the needs of our customers and have the ability to be updated weekly. 

NMME Monthly Forecast Charts
 

The North American Multi-Model Ensemble (NMME) monthly forecast climate anomalies are provided for the upcoming 6-months. The parameters include temperature anomalies as well as precipitation anomalies as compared to normal. 

Cumulative Degree Day Charts
 

Cumulative Degree Day Charts (GDD,HDD, and CDD) are produced weekly and can be changed to begin accumulating any date specified by the customer depending on the season. These charts include several additional statistical analyses that incorporate the previous year's data, and climatological normals. 

Delta Degree Day Charts
 

Delta Degree Day Charts (GDD,HDD, and CDD) are produced weekly and can be changed to start at any date specified by the customer depending on the season. The delta charts illustrate the difference in cumulative degree days from the previous year and from climate.  These charts include several additional statistical analyses that incorporate the previous year's data, and climatological normals. 

Climate Charts
 

Climate charts can be provided based on any latitude/longitude point, a specific WMO weather station by ID number, or the charts can be made for all the WMO stations within a latitude/longitude box or within a country boundary. These charts display the monthly average precipitation as reported by the CPC and by TRMM along with the average high and low temperature for each month. These, along with all other charts and maps can be provided in standard or metric units.
